JAMES W. MACDONALD

James Macdonald is an independent consultant providing dispute resolution and strategic consulting services to insurers, reinsurers and policyholders.  Dispute resolution services include engagements either as a consultant or expert witness on matters in litigation or arbitration.  He continues to deliver research reports for think-tanks and industry advisers whilst retaining a role as an expert in arbitration, litigation and before matters reach that phase.

His major areas of claims and underwriting practices include Workers Compensation, Products Liability, all forms of Professional Liability and D&O insurance, Excess Liability, Medical Professional Liability Insurance, Financial Guaranty Insurance, MGA program business, “fronting” practices, finite reinsurance, and alternative risk financing.

Over the past four decades, Jim has developed a broad range of experience in the USA and Canada with industry leaders including AIG, ACE-INA, CNA, Marsh & McLennan, General Re, and Munich Re.  In addition, Jim has served as member of the NCCI Residual Market Pool Board, a founding member of the National Patient Safety Foundation at the AMA, and a member of the RAND Institute for Civil Justice Board. His professional certifications include the CPCU and ARM designations.
