Richard Whatton

Senior Consultant

Richard Whatton has worked in the insurance industry for the past 38 years and during the last 15 years has held a variety of senior regulated positions in the UK, USA and Singapore. He has managed the reserving for a variety of insurance entities from Lloyd’s syndicates to UK, US and Singapore regulated insurance companies. He has been involved in the planning and implementation of several solvent and insolvent schemes of arrangement and the evaluation of creditors’ claims within those schemes. He has experience in the start up, acquisition, strategic business planning, turnaround management, development and closure of insurance businesses. He is also experienced in dispute resolution encompassing the inspection of records, litigation, arbitration and mediation both in Europe and the USA.

He worked within the Whittington Group for 13 years undertaking various roles, from Group Managing Director to Deputy Chief Executive of insurance operations. While at Whittington he was instrumental in the acquisition of five insurance companies in run-off and developed and assisted with the implementation of several schemes of arrangement.

He has also worked as a consultant to the United Nations appointed Insurance Regulator in Kosovo. He has lectured at various conferences in the UK and USA and conducted CPE training day presentations to the Insurance Departments in Louisiana and Mississippi.

He left the Whittington Group in December 2006 following the de-merger. In June 2007 he joined ISG to spearhead the growth of its US and Bermudian business, specifically the acquisition of distressed insurance entities in those areas.
